Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya becomes first Athlete to finish a Marathon under 2 hours
On 12th October 2019 in Vienna Austria, Kenya Eliud Kipchoge became first Athlete to complete a Marathon under 2 hours after finishing at 1:59:40. Kipchoge is a long distance runner who competes in the marathon. It did not count as an official marathon record because it was not an open event but it is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the ‘Fastest marathon distance (male)’ and ‘First marathon distance run under two hours’.
Born on 5th November 1984 in Kapsisiywa, Nandi County, Kenya, Kipchoge won the Olympic marathon gold medal at the Rio games in 2016. He has won marathons in Berlin, London and Chicago.
